Strandbeesten (go to: http://www.strandbeest.com/), made of PVC-electricity-tubes; exposed in a former Electricity-Factory; nice combi! The movement was present as projected movies; and some of the beasts could be pushed around. On the first floor you could feel how well the location and the beasts fitted together. This was the place where the beasts, that hadn’t survived their first life-experiences, were resting in peace. They were exposed like archaeological findings of dinosaurs. Body-remains were sorted; categorized and put together side by side; type by type.

A few Saturdays ago I went to the former Electricity-Factory in the Hague, to see the ‘Strandbeesten’-exhibition. These ‘Strandbeesten’ (‘Beach-Animals’) are a creation of artist Theo Jansen. For many years he is busy to design ‘new life-forms’; creatures, made of PVC-electricity-tubes, that can walk over the beach; driven by the wind. It is great to see them move (go to: http://www.strandbeest.com/). On the ground-floor of the Electricity-Factory the newest Strandbeest-creation was tested; and this Saturday (third of May) it was ‘set-free’ on the ‘Zuiderstrand’. A parade of enthusiasts carried the beast from the Factory to the Beach.

Commemoration Day prt1

Commemoration Day prt1 | SONY A7 | Zeiss Makro-Planar 50mm. f/2 ZF.2 | 1/200 | F? | ISO 250

Today we have Commemoration Day overhere. At 20:00 hours we will be silent for two minutes and think of those who died in the 2nd Worldwar; in the fight against fascism and racism. Still needed, according to some writings. (The text says: “Kanker (cancer) Joden (Jews)”. Kind of a reminder of the forces that caused the holocaust.)
