Noorderlicht na de Maaltijd prt1

Noorderlicht na de Maaltijd prt1

In the Dutch language we have a saying: ‘Mosterd na de maaltijd’ (literally: Mustard after the meal) which, according to a translate-site means: “it is a day after the fair”. Todays post is about the Noorderlicht PhotoManifestation 2015. The best, yearly Photo exhibition we have overhere. I was there, in the former sugarfactory in Groningen on the 3rd of October and it lasted till the 11th of October, which explains the title of this post. If you like to see what it was about, go to the next two links; and when you click on the ‘view exhibition camera icon’, you get a pretty good impression of what was going on.

Kraftwerk

Kraftwerk

‘Thunderbirds are Go’ popped up in my head, when I saw these Anton Corbijn portraits of the members of Kraftwerk. Great idea, this clean approach, and it suits their synthetic analog-computer music very well.

“Ich bin der Musikant mit Taschenrechner in der Hand
Ich addiere
Und subtrahiere
Kontrolliere
Und Komponiere
Und wenn ich diese Taste drück
Spielt er ein kleines Musikstück”.

(7 Shots) | (Short Mexico-break) | Today was the last day of the large Anton Corbijn retrospective ‘Hollands Deep’, in the ‘Gemeentemuseum’ in The Hague. An additional exhibition, called ‘1-2-3-4’, in the ‘Hague Museum of Photography’, is extended till the 16th of august. Great work! Quite a lot of his photo’s are famous; but it was special to see them ‘for real’. Feeling, atmosphere, special-characteristic moments, that is what matters in his work; technical stuff is minor, like in the music of Joy Division or Tom Waits; passion and meaning speak. I had my camera with me; but it felt silly to take shots from shots. After a while I started to shoot the exhibition and the uniqueness of all these wonderful photo’s, being together.

These Gohstbusters were shot from behind on Thursday during their dress-rehearsal for the Filmmuseum show. The 2nd shot was taken on Saturday during the real performance. Later on, in Lightroom, I was amazed by the resemblance of the poses; as if the shots were taken at the same time.
