Los

The self portrait above tells more about me than the next words can. Free out there in the rough nature of North-Spain. Some bread and water; camera around the neck and I can be left to my fate. Buenos días. After a while there is just space, light and ‘the things’. Senses open; reason to zero, climbing, jumping; timeless and aimless. Sometimes my attention is drawn and I get focused. It is then that I do what I love most: making photo’s.
What kind of Photographer am I? Next to shots that are registrations; I’m always on the search for a little more; for something behind: essence; strange coincidences; silence; meaning; autonomous beauty; the deep; or something near. It goes by the feel; something has to touch me and focus my attention. Was I looking for it; or was it looking for me. From my visual arts studies elements like rhythm, texture, contrast, color, direction, proportion, light-fall, etc. are familiar. Composition is important especially when it makes the meaning stronger. I don’t like too much Photoshopping and like to stay close to the original. I’m also not fond of posed or staged photo’s. It should cross my path; in the encounter. Want to see more: go to Portfolio.
I live in The Hague, with my wife, daughter and son.

    Caroline, from Montreal, Quebec.

  33. Harrie – Well I just about broke the like button this morning as I went through your ‘abstracts’ category. Just excellent work!!! You have a fine eye for texture, color, composition, etc. etc. I so appreciate your work and find much of it most stimulating and quite inspiring. You consistently find those remarkable and sublime moments along the path and are able to beautifully highlight their qualities which many pass by without noticing. Thank you for sharing and keep up the fine work!
    Many Blessings

    • Thanks a lot, David. As already commented on your blog, I somehow got ‘unfollowed’ from your blog. Too bad; so I hit the Follow-button once more and let’s hope it stays ‘on’. Keep shooting!

Your “about” page has a way of capturing what many photographers feel, but don’t find a way to express in words. It’s also poetic—that is, one can read it time and again, just for the pleasure of its wording.
