The photo above is meant to be a joyful, festive start of this Blog. It was taken on the fair of The Hague in April 2012. I’m not very fond of fairs, but a madhouse of hard colored, fast moving objects, sprinkled with loads of colored lights, is a great challenge when you like photography. And I just bought my Zeiss Makro-Planar 50mm. f/2 ZF.2 lens; a party on its own. A fantastic lens that I will keep till one of us dies.

  1. Superb photo with a burst of light simultaneously emanating from the eye and silhouetting the figurine.

    • Hi, and thank you! I always thought photography was about the artistic eye only; and gear didn’t matter, until I saw what a Zeiss lens can do.

I love how you took these shots, Harrie. Maybe you could recommend me a camera (just an inexpensive one for amateurs) that can take photos like these, although I know of course the quality wouldn’t be as great as that of your Nikon D700. No, I can’t possibly afford to get a Zeiss lens. 🙂

Mine is just a Nikon Coolpix s3300, and you can see my frustration taking photos of the super moon: http://melisaone.wordpress.com/2013/06/29/how-the-supermoon-evolved/

    • Hi Melisa. The more quality you want, the bigger sensor you’ll need. Best choice would be a SONY-NEX 3n with a 16-50mm. kitlens (around $350,- ). (one step ‘bigger/more expensive’ is the SONY NEX5 or a new SONY A5000 (not yet available overhere) around $550-600,-). They have APS-C size sensors, which is quite big, compared to a compact camera as you have now. An older model is often cheaper and almost as good as the latest model. Hope this helps!
